Great, Sudsy Goodness.

Savon de Marseille

I love soap!! Big square bars, small cubes, round and even sometimes heart shaped soaps. When ever I look at a bar of creamy, fragrant yumminess it makes me imagine the kind of woman that would use that particular type of soap. Also, I am a sucker for packaging, I've bought countless jars and boxes of "stuff" just because of the packaging.

Structural love.

I have a bit of a nerdy secret... I absolutely love buildings!!! Old, new, straight or wonky, something about them just draws me in. I wonder what the designer was thinking during the design process, did aesthetics  come before function or is it a wonderful combination of both?   Today, I would like to share a few images from my time in Dubai.

I love the straight lines of this old building. It was constructed for beauty and function - the slim colums send up heat and keep the inside really cool, even during the hottest periods. The markings outside this old library are reproduced a few times around the building and I wish I knew what they meant.  Simplicity and beauty!!!

And to end this post, how about something cute that you probably don't see so often.

Winter getting you down?

This week, it seems like winter will never end!! But here's a thought, someone somewhere is sipping on a mojito as we speak. Why, oh why can't it be me?? As a child, I lived really far away from the sea, the closest I got was the artificial beach at the amusement water park. Sad really! Anyhow, now that I'm all grown up, I visit as many beaches as I can and rate them all on a 1 to 5 basis. 1 being the artificial beach at the water park. For my honeymoon, I wanted to visit the most beautiful, alive and serene beach EVER. So after months of searching, I found it.
Today, I would like to share a beach that is a perfect 10. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the fair sands of the Koomandoo Beach Resort in the Maldives.

Koomando is an amazingly beautiful island on the Maldives. Its pretty small, only about 500 metres long but this only enhances its charm. Its the perfect place for a romantic vacation or just to chillout. Tripadviser voted it the #1 "Best for Romance" in Asia and #7 in the world so you know its fabulous. Also swoon worthy is the Duniye Spa featuring loads of relaxing treatments. You have got to try the Signature "Maldivian Island Paradise Massage". Seriously, you won't be able to peel yourself off the massage table.

Working the wall.

For the last few months, I have been searching for the perfect picture hanging arrangment for the long living room wall in my new apartment. I am painting the wall a lovely dark greyish blue colour. Inspiration for the colour comes from the walls of one of the exhibition rooms of the Picasso Museum in Barcelona. The paint looks really close to this one featured on Apartment Therapy but I'll be using Abysee from Flamant.

So, introducing the contenders:

First, we have this gorgeous array of prints framed in colour washed borders. The gradually varying frame sizes add to the visual interest of the wall.

This beige wall gets more interesting with the addition of simple white frames with different size images and borders.

I really like the grouping and sizes of these frames but I would probably choose to keep the frames in one colour family.

I don't think we have a winner yet so the search continues!!!

No day like today.

So, I've been thinking about starting a blog for a while. And then I thought a little, and then I thought a lot, and then progressed to thinking about thinking about starting a blog...
Was there more to it, thought I? Would I be forced to be witty or say something profound every time I posted? A frightening prospect and people, I don't do fright well!

Then I just decided to start. This blog is for me and the things I love. Maybe you'll like some of them, maybe you won't. Either way, there's no day like today.
