DVF.... Oh how I love thee !

Today,  I took another step towards becoming "that Mom". You know, the one you roll your eyes at and tell your friends that you will never, ever upon pain of death become. Yes, I plan to wear matching outfits with my toddler daughter, gulp!

Look, don't judge me. What's cuter than a stylish mother - daughter duo in complementary skinny jeans and Uggs? I haven't actually done that yet, I'm waiting till she doesn't outgrow things every other month. But the new Gap Collection by DVF is calling me like baked goods to an Atkins devotee.  Feast your eyes, mortals !

And my little one and I will be wearing this, sitting outside and enjoying the summer:

Its selling out like mad, so I better get shopping pronto !

Africa Fashion Week 2012 - Lagos, Nigeria

Last week, a trong of talented African designers converged on Lagos, Nigeria to be part of the 2012 Arise Fashion Week.  I couldn't be there but my fashionista friend, Nellie had front row seats to the top shows and managed to get a few somewhat murky blackberry shots (which I won't be using here) of the amazing creations. African design was well represented in a large range from well established names like Ozwald Boateng and Tiffany Amber ( who had Alex Wek walking in her show ) to the virtually unknown such as Tsemaye Binitie and Maki Oh.

Here are a few of my favourite looks courtesy of Bella Naija blog.

And here is my favorite attendee look. I think she looks fabulous from head to toe. Particularly loving the mix of colours in the rafia fabric and the addition of grey (or is that silver ) in the handbag.

The top five designers will be showing  at the Arise Show at the New York Fashion Week in September 2012. I really hope I can work out my schedule to be at the shows... Good job, guys.

Girlfriends

In honour of International Women's Day, I would like to share this picture I found on Pinterest.  I'm not sure what exactly draws me to it. It's certainly gorgeous but more than that, there's a feeling of togetherness as if they could really all be friends.  It's sort of like my friends and I, different sizes, races and personalities but the love is so steadfast and strong. I love you ladies, you know who you are !!!

Shape Shifting.

Today I'm in one of my restless moods where I just want to change up the whole apartment, get new art, new shades, new something !!!! Of course, I can't just up and redecorate the whole apartment but hey that's where accessories come in.  I'm really getting into basic shapes when applied on everyday household articles and the folks over at Ferm Living do a wonderful job of it. Here are a few things I'm eyeing....Lord, grant me restraint!!

Knitted Floor Cushions

And to brighten up the kitchen.....
Stackable Bowls with Lid

Tower of Rings Napkin Rings

Now, don't you just feel like entertaining? Go on, grab a friend and enjoy !

New Beginnings.

All of last week, I was in Berlin for work and had the chance to visit some really great stores (more on that at a later date).  The weather was crisp and cold but I still got a tiny feel of spring in the gorgeous garden of the Literaturhaus near Kurfürstendamm.
I also got to spend time with a dear friend who is  going through a transitory period in her life. So, after the endless cups tea had been drunk and the kuchen (cake) eaten, we started of on the next step of her journey..the decoration of her amazing new flat.  The flat is on the top floor of a beautifully restored old German building with all its charm and authenticity. Beautiful high ceilings and a balcony overlooking a small, exquisitely tended garden....swoon worthy! I promised not to show any pictures of her apartment but what I really want to share here is the feeling of starting something anew..or going in a different direction. Its excitement, nervousness with a bit of fear mixed in. That's how I feel right now about this blog because although I've been so distracted with work and life, I really think that fear has kept me away from this blog. Well, no more.  Its time to move right on !

This inspiring card from Curly Girl Design says it all.
